magical Moments that Define our Lives

Something really special happened the other day … one of those moments you don’t forget. The kind that stays with you and brings a smile when you think about it, and leaves your heart feeling full.
We had just dropped David's son James off at the Gold Coast Airport, and then, to my complete surprise (or maybe clever planning), my beautiful daughter Joelle appeared out of nowhere. It was the most wonderful surprise and made this Mother’s Day one of the most memorable I’ve ever had.

Moments like that don’t come along all the time … but when they do, they remind you just how powerful love, connection, and presence can be.
It also made me think about the smaller, everyday moments that bring us closer to the people we care about. You don’t need a big surprise to create warmth and connection. It can be as simple as truly being there for someone, saying what’s in your heart, or reminding someone how special they are to you.
- How often do we take the time to do that? To tell our kids, partners, or parents how much they mean to us … not just in words, but with our full presence?
- And why can it feel so hard sometimes to say, “I love you,” or “You’re amazing,” in a way that really lands for you both?
What Joelle did for me this weekend reminded me how deeply those moments matter.

It also brought back a memory of the last time I saw my Dad. In our family, we didn’t really talk openly about love… like with many Aussie families it just wasn’t something we did. But that day, I held his hand, looked him in the eyes, and told him how much I loved him, what a wonderful Dad he has always been and how grateful I was for him. A little tear trickled down his cheek as I spoke the words of truth and I know it meant a lot to him, as it did for me. It was incredibly healing and I went back home feeling somehow lighter and freer. A week later, he passed away.
We never know what’s ahead. That’s why it’s so important to take the time to be real, to be kind and to say the things that matter. Not just for the people we love, but for ourselves too.
Love, presence, and gratitude really are some of the most powerful things we can share. And they’re always available to us,
in the big moments … and the small ones.
